FOSTER A DOG
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”
Foster homes are the lifeline of our organization. By fostering with us you offer a dog a warm, loving environment while they wait for their forever home. You will be saving a life and supporting your community, all while enjoying the love and companionship of a dog.
We are full for short-term fosters, but are in need of 4-6 week foster commitments. (Please fill out the foster application below if that is you!)
Fostering guidelines & criteria
Foster must be 21 or over (or 25 for most strong breeds and all bully breeds).
Foster must live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Renters must have written agreements from their landlord to allow dogs.
Previous dog experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
All resident dogs must be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and be in good health or under the care of a veterinarian.
Foster must have the physical ability to handle animals in their care.
Foster agrees to have open communication with their rescue representative.
Foster must be able to follow our rescue’s policies and safety protocol, and exhibit the ability to make appropriate judgment calls and ask questions when needed.
Foster will attend 50% of our monthly events or make the dog available for private meet and greets when it is ready for adoption.
Why Foster With Us?
Honesty is key for everyone in making sure homes are forever, and this starts with our team of humans. We will be upfront with you when it comes to information about the dogs, our process, and our policies. We make sure your foster dog is compatible with your home to set everyone up for success. You will also be paired with a foster coordinator who will help to oversee you and your foster dog have everything you need. We make sure you will receive consistent support from a dedicated liaison, so that all questions and needs are answered.
If you don't already have dog experience we’ll help you become an expert dog caregiver. Foster families give a dog a jumpstart on learning how to be in a home environment, and we’ll be there to guide you through it all: basic obedience, crate training, house training, and rehabilitation.
We also make sure all dog expenses are covered for our fosters. That means food, toys, supplies, crates and bedding, and all medical needs when pre-approved and taken care of by our partner veterinarians.
Lastly, you will be joining a passionate community of volunteers. We're your extended network for support and guidance, but we're also here to celebrate the joy of saving dogs with our entire Bay Area Community.
If you love animals, there is nothing more rewarding than rescue.
